SAVAGE Model 1917 .32 ACP Caliber SEMI-AUTO Self Defense POCKET Pistol C&R
Made During the “ROARING TWENTIES” with Exposed Hammer
Description: SAVAGE Model 1917 .32 ACP Caliber SEMI-AUTO Self Defense POCKET Pistol C&R Made During the “ROARING TWENTIES” with Exposed Hammer Here we present a C&R Savage Model 1917 Semi-Automatic Pocket Pistol, made circa 1920 to 1928 in Utica, New York. In the early 20th Century, Savage was Colt’s primary competition for semi-automatics and Savage’s Model 1907 was a best seller. The founder, Arthur W. Savage was a restless and very productive sort who did a little bit of everything during his lifetime. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica to British parents in 1857. He went to school in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States and then in the UK. From there he moved about until he found himself in Australia looking for precious stones, exploring, homesteading and running cattle. He married and started his family (8 children) there before moving to Jamaica to try his hand at agriculture. Some sources say that he grew coffee and some bananas; likely, it was both. Moving on from there, he managed the Utica Belt Line Railroad in New York. In the meantime, he was tinkering with firearms design. By 1894, he seemed to have found his niche and founded his namesake company. Going up against the likes of Winchester, Savage began his firearms line with a lever action rifle, the Model 1895. His Model 1899 is perhaps his most endearing. The cartridges and detachable rotary magazine he developed are two of his most lasting impacts in the firearms industry today. True to character he sold out of the company in about 1905 and moved to California, where he founded the highly successful Savage Tire Company and continued to dabble in firearms. After the Model 1907, Savage made two other very similar semi-automatic pistols, with many parts in common with the Model 1907. The first was the Model 1915 that was manufactured between 1915 and 1917. The other was this example, the model 1917 made from 1920 through 1928. The Model 1917 is mechanically the same as and shares almost all of its parts with the final version of the Model 1907 (including a smaller, thinner cocking lever "hammer"), but with a significantly larger handle. Because this required larger grips, the Model 1917 uses one screw through each grip to hold them to the pistol frame. This is a nice example of Savage’s top-selling semi-automatic pistol. It features the exposed hammer and an impressive 10-shot magazine. It is a very nice size for concealed carry and self-defense. Corners are nicely melted and the total weight with an empty magazine is only a little over 19 ounces. The hard rubber grips feature the trademark Indian Chief with “SAVAGE QUALITY” wrapping around. The overall condition is near fine. Original blue finish and case colors on the hammer. The action is excellent. The bore is in great shape with nice rifling. The grips are very good. An interesting pistol from Savage! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 3-3/4 inches. Caliber: .32 ACP Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1200 #215560 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
