Savage Navy 1861 Revolver, Civil War Era, Antique, O-118
Description: Synopsis: Antique Savage 1861 Navy revolver is a distinctive .36 caliber, six-shot percussion revolver used primarily during the American Civil War. Description: The Savage 1861 Navy revolver is a distinctive .36 caliber, six-shot percussion revolver used primarily during the American Civil War. Manufactured by Savage Revolving Firearms Company, it features a unique ring-lever action that operates both the cylinder rotation and hammer cocking, making it mechanically complex compared to contemporary revolvers like the Colt Navy. This Commercial example has the manufacturers address on the top strap, but no other external markings. Although the military version saw use among Union forces, particularly in the Navy, all examples remain a sought-after collector’s piece due to its unusual design and historical significance. Condition: Good, with considerable fading of the original fading as photographed. To ring cock the revolver, the hammer needs be rotated upwards just high enough to clear the topstrap, after which the hammer movement and cylinder rotation will proceed in the usual manner. As true for most of these revolvers, several of the nipples are fractured. Comparable condition grips. One of the most interesting revolvers used in the Civil War! ~~Insured shipping fee of $65; most packages shipped using FedEx 2nd Day.~~ SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Savage Serial Number: NSN Caliber Info: 0.36 |
