** SOLD ** 1998 1st Year Sig Sauer Stainless P220S Sport .45 ACP Pistol w/ Factory Weighted Compensator, Box, Etc. and 5 Mags!
* Rare! *
Description: We are pleased to offer this beautiful and quite scarce/rare 1st year production stainless steel Sig Sauer P220S Sport .45 ACP factory target pistol, complete with it's original box, various paperwork/pamphlets/hang tags, factory tool, factory lock, and a total of FIVE 8-round factory magazines. With a date code of 1998 (KJ) this Sig P220S Sport was one of the first guns made of this model in the first year of production, which started late in 1998, and which were only imported for less than two years between 1999 and 2000. This was Sig's TOP-OF-THE-LINE limited-production competition target pistol, the most accurate .45 ACP P220 pistol variation ever made by Sig at that time. Featuring full stainless steel construction with a stainless slide, barrel, and frame, the P220S Sport was totally hand-fit, hand-finished, and hand-tuned to the highest standards. The barrel in these Sport models was manufactured and supplied by the famous Sauer firm which is also in Germany, a hand-selected heavy match-grade barrel made with the strictest tolerances possible at the time with perfectly-cut slick and flawless rifling and a match-spec chamber. The stainless P220S Sport also features an extended slide stop, magazine release, and decocker/safety lever, fully-adjustable factory target sights, Hogue-supplied black rubber textured grips, a hand-tuned and lightened match-quality trigger, a pic rail front frame section forward of the trigger guard, and a Sig-designed detachable weighted compensator/muzzle brake assembly. This very cool factory compensator/muzzle brake was designed with both an expansion chamber and two slot-shaped ports beyond the crown of the muzzle to reduce the felt recoil, substantially reduce muzzle rise/flip, and move the balance point to be muzzle-heavy even with a full magazine to improve both stability and accuracy. The end result was one of Sig Sauer's best .45 ACP target pistols ever made. These guns quickly proved to be one of, if not the most, straight out-of-the-box accurate .45 ACP SA/DA production pistol ever made by any manufacturer. These are both exceptionally accurate and extremely reliable with factory match grade ammo of multiple brands, bullet types and weights; a rare feat when most heavily-tuned target guns require a specific weight and type of match ammo or specific hand-loads to function reliably and accurately. This beautiful VERY lightly-used Sig P220S Sport is in excellent all-original condition overall, rating 98%, and is in perfect condition mechanically. If not for a little very minor wear to the barrel where it contacts the compensator assembly and a little very minor wear to the chamber area of the very close-fitting barrel, it would be near-mint. You will see these marks on both the barrel and chamber on just about every one of these guns encountered due to the extremely close fit of all of the parts. When the slide is worked by hand or the gun is fired, there is metal to metal contact in these spots and this "wear" happens after firing only 2 to 3 magazines thru it. As it sits, these barrel marks/scuffs detract very, very little from the extremely clean and handsome look of this pistol. As you can see from the pictures, the slide, frame, and controls show no visible wear or damage of any kind. All of the factory markings and proof stamps are crisp and clean, and all of the edges on this gun are still in perfect shape with no visible wear, rounding, or damage, even on the high-edges. Unfortunately, I missed the little bit of dirt/grime behind the slide serrations when wiping it down for pictures. That stuff which is most visible in pictures 5 and 9 is no longer there. The internals of this pistol are just as clean and free from wear as the exterior. There is little to zero mechanical wear visible on any of the internals, only some totally superficial stuff that cannot be prevented short of never firing the gun or even never working the slide for that matter. The bore in the factory-installed Sauer match-grade barrel is perfect, mirror-bright with sharp, well-defined and strong rifling with no visible erosion, pitting, or imperfections of any kind. The action on this P220S Sport really has to be felt in person to truly be appreciated! It is so slick and smooth it feels like it is on ball bearings, and the barrel to slide lock-up is perfect, nice and tight with ZERO wiggle. The slide to frame fitment is superb, and all of the controls on this Sig are still in like-new perfect working condition. The trigger also deserves individual mention on this Sig. The factory hand-tuned and lightened match-quality trigger is very smooth, light in pull weight, and breaks like a glass rod with ZERO felt grit or slop, particularly when in SA firing with the hammer already cocked. There is NO DOUBT that this scarce and very desirable 1st year production Sig P220S Sport will function just as perfectly today as it did when it left the factory in late 1998/1999. It absolutely still has 99% of it's service life in it. This rare and collectible gun comes complete with the original box (although missing end-label), all of the paperwork except for the test target, the factory lock, the factory tools (3-way screwdriver and 2 Allen keys), and a total of FIVE of the proper factory Sig Sauer 8-round P220 magazines with the factory rubber pad on the baseplate (4 in matte blue and one stainless mag still sealed in the bag). If you have been looking for one of these extremely cool and collectible stainless Sig P220S Sports for your collection you would be VERY hard-pressed to find a better example than this one in ANY respect. Priced at $2495 this should sell quickly, given the recent results of GB s of lessor guns selling for more.
