SMITH AND WESSON 2nd MODEL OF 91 SINGLE SHOT 22 CALIBER PISTOL

Description:
6 inch barrel with a fare bore and evident rifling throughout. The metal surfaces are a deep gray-brown patina with some scattered light pin-prick pitting, mostly along the left side of the barrel. The hammer retains bright case colors and the markings remain mostly strong. The Smith & Wesson insignia is present on the right side of the frame as well as both grips. The black checkered hard rubber grips are very good with light dings and a small crack at the base of the right panel. The action seems to function well mechanically.
The Smith & Wesson Second Model Club Gun (often chambered in .22 LR) is a historic variant of S&W's famous single-shot target pistols, introduced in 1905. S&W specially stamped these scarce handguns with a “0” or zero-prefix serial number and loaned them to shooting clubs or notable marksmen as promotional test models. These purpose-built “club guns” share the mechanical features of the traditional Second Model Single Shot, such as a 6-inch or 10-inch barrel, relief grooves on the frame, and adjustable square notch sights. Because they were used primarily for factory testing or club competition prizes, very few were produced. Today, they are highly sought after by historical arms collectors. The "Club Gun" or "O Series" variations (where the frame is marked with a zero) are especially scarce. They were often promotional items or made to use up spare factory parts.
