LETTERED 1911 Smith & Wesson .38 S&W LemonSqueezer Nickel & Pearl! Shipped to SACRAMENTO, CA in 1911!
Description: LETTERED 1911 Smith & Wesson .38 S&W LemonSqueezer Nickel & Pearl! Shipped to SACRAMENTO, CA in 1911! Here we present a Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action Safety Hammerless Revolver (5th Model), made in 1911 in Springfield, Massachusetts and Shipped to Kimball Upson Co., a sporting goods store in Sacramento, California. Moses Nixon Kimball (b. 1862) was the son of early Iowan immigrants both descended from Revolutionary War patriots (Jacob Kimball on his father’s side & Col. Ethan Allen & John Nixon on his mother’s). He moved to California in 1883 and founded his own sporting goods company in 1891, primarily selling bicycles. His business grew steadily, taking on Mr. L.S. Upson as a partner in 1893. Kimball, apparently not immune from the wanderlust that caused him to venture to California from Iowa, spent the majority of his time in the Alaskan frontier from 1897 to 1908, while his partner continued to run the business in his absence. He returned to Sacramento full-time in 1908 and resumed his role at the helm. He would pass in 1945. Over the three-year production run for the 5th model, roughly 41,500 were manufactured. The Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless models were produced from 1887 (1888 for the 32) to just before World War II. They were chambered in either .32 S&W or .38 S&W with a five-shot cylinder. They were most often produced with a 2-inch, 3-inch, 3.5-inch, or 4-inch barrel. But some 6" barreled versions are known to exist. This revolver was made to be a simple, compact and reliable firearm that one could carry in a pocket or a holster around the turn of the 20th Century. This revolver features an internal hammer design to remove risk of snagging or stopping the action. There is a grip safety built into the back of the grip frame. The frame is a top-break design that activates the automatic ejector. These are very nice features from the turn of the 20th Century! They were known as "The New Departure" to reflect the company's new approach to designing revolvers. The overall condition is very fine. 98% of the original nickel finish remains with excellent case colors and blue accent. The markings are clear. The numbers match. The mother of pearl grips are in fine shape. The bore is likewise very fine, very bright with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a very neat little revolver from 1911 Sacramento! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 4 inches. Caliber: .38 S&W Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1100 #190248 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
