Antique Smith & Wesson 1st Model Baby Russian. Tight As New. 97% Factory Nickel Finish. Fantastic Little Jewel.
Description:
Antique Smith & Wesson Baby Russian 1st Model. This 1st model Baby Russian is in excellent condition. This model was only made 1876 through 1877 with S/N range 1 through 25548. This gun is S/N 22461 so it is close to the end of production. It has the standard 3 1/4” barrel. It is chambered for the .38 S&W cartridge. All the S/N are matching on the frame, cylinder, barrel and barrel latch. No number on the inside of the right grip but it looks like the main spring has lightly rubbed right were the S/N would be scratched in.. The grips fit perfectly and are a snap on factory fit and no doubt they are the original grips. No cracks or chips and still show all the fine checkering showing no wear. This little revolver retains nearly all of the bright factory nickel plating. I would have to rate the finish at least 97%.. Just a very small spot of nickel missing in one of the cylinder flutes, a couple small specks on the barrel.. No pitting or bad spots. The nickel finish is very bright as new and not fading and never polished on or messed with like so many have been. Just a little dulling down the back strap. The barrel latch has about 90% blue. The extractor pawl on the bottom of the frame retains 100% blue. The extractor rack screw catch on the bottom of the barrel has 50% blue. The smooth area on the trigger has about 25% or so blue. The hammer has 100% case colors on the rear. Has 95% on the right side and about 30% on the left side. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun. Gun locks up with NO cylinder side roll. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge.. Bore is mostly bright with a few scattered very minor specks of roughness. Might even clean up better.. The cylinder chambers are excellent. All the markings are excellent as well. Over all this is a fantastic little Smith & Wesson that would be pretty hard to improve on unless you could find one that is in mint 100% condition and you will not buy it for what I am asking for this one !!! Just a great looking 148 year old revolver at a reasonable price. It looks much better in hand than it does in the photos because of the glare from the bright nickel finish. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $30 insured shipping.
