Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd Model Double Action .38 S&W Caliber. Lots Of Original Finish. Tight As New. Excellent Bore.
Description:
SOLD...Real nice antique Smith & Wesson 2nd model .38 caliber double action revolver. Nice honest ole S&W. This is the 2nd model double action in .38 S&W caliber. S/N 112301. and all matching. These are all antique as were made 1880 to 1884. Has the standard 3 1/4” barrel. This little gun still retains quite a bit of the original nickel finish. The barrel has at least 85%. The cylinder has about 75% and the frame has 75% as well. The trigger guard has 80% blue with some minor flaking. Fading blue on the barrel latch. Traces of case color on one side of the hammer. The balance of the metal where the nickel has flaked is a brown speckled patina as you can see. One small area on the cylinder that has some very light and minor pin prick pitting but nothing bad at all or detracting from the gun. The mechanics are excellent but the hammer will not hold on the first safety notch. It holds perfectly on the full cock notch for the single action mode and it works perfectly on the double action. Just no safety notch. You should never use the safety notch anyway as they are absolutely not safe to carry on the safety notch with a live round under the hammer. Other wise, this gun is crisp and tight as new lock up in SA and DA. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. All the markings are excellent. Front sight never messed with or filed on. The screws are all very serviceable but a couple show some turning but nothing burred up. The grip are very nice with nice checkering and show very little use. There is however the very common crack on the bottom left side as you can see in the photo. It is still tight and intact. You see these busted completely out on many of these little Smiths because of the locating pin in the frame that is too close to the bottom of the grips. Bad design from Smith & Wesson. Otherwise, nice looking grips with no other issues. They fit perfectly. The bore is near excellent with just very minor frosting that will probably clean out to excellent and bright. No pitting. The cylinder chambers are the same. This is a very nice Smith & Wesson with quite a bit of finish remaining for the money. These are still very popular today with collectors all around the world. $18 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Please leave a message if I do not answer the phone as I get so many robo calls every day I just do not answer the phone anymore but I check messages throughout the day, even on week ends. All shooters shoot at your own risk and use black powder ammo only..... Check back often as I just a got a bunch of nice guns in that I will be listing soon.
