Antique Smith & Wesson New Model # 3 Single Action. .44 Russian Caliber. Tight Like New. Some Finish Remaining. All Matching.
Description:
SOLD..Antique Smith & Wesson New Model # 3 single action.. Here is a very nice and tight Smith & Wesson New Model # 3 revolver. S/N 11265 and all matching on the barrel, frame, cylinder and barrel latch. This is the earlier model made with the gear tooth extractor and slightly longer ejector housing. Has the standard 6 1/2” barrel and is in the very accurate .44 Russian caliber. The bore is very near excellent with very strong and deep rifling with just some very minor roughness. The chambers are clean and bright. The gun still retains some original nickel finish. Where the nickel finish was missing it had a light gray color and was very hard to tell where the nickel plating started and ended so I have very lightly wiped the gun with diluted cold blue so you can clearly see the remaining finish. It will be easily removed if so desired and not hurt the original finish and I can do that for you if you wish to do so. The barrel has about 30% or so finish. The cylinder has 60% finish and the frame has about 30% including the front and rear grip straps and most of it is on the right side as you can see. Very strong and vivid case colors on the left side of the hammer. The right side has mostly faded out to a silver gray color The case colors on the trigger guard have faded out also to a silver gray color. NO bad pitting on the gun but a couple areas of VERY light pin pricks on the sides of the frame. Can not even see it in my photos... Nothing bad or detracting from this nice ole Smith.. The barrel latch still shows 80% bright blue on top. The mechanics on this gun are excellent. A very crisp and tight like new gun. Hammer notches are perfect and hold very positive on the half and full cock notches. Rebounding hammer works perfectly as it is suppose to.. The cylinder has absolutely no front to rear movement and no side to side wobble. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge.. These Smith & Wesson's are not easy or cheap to repair when they get all loose, out of time and wobbly as most you will find are. This gun is rock solid every where and needs nothing. The grips are nice and original to the gun. They do show some light and common line cracks on the bottom left side as you can see in the photo. Shows a light minor glue repair on the inside middle of the right grip. Nothing showing on the outside.. Still very solid and no pieces missing. Shows the fine checkering and not worn down smooth. Perfect factory fit.. The screw heads are all still crisp and clean and not all burred up from tinkering. Excellent markings throughout. I have owned this revolver for many years and it was my go to shooter and it shoots great and very accurate as the .44 Russian caliber was the main target round at shooting matches around the world and for good reason. It is a target round and will out shoot any antique Colt revolver ever made. It was very popular on the frontier and many lawmen and outlaws carried this very same model. Too many to mention. Bob Ford use S/N 3766 to shoot and kill Jesse James. This is a very nice, crisp and tight and not messed with New Model # 3 with some original finish for the money. I have four or five of this model in my collection with much more finish and I just do not need this many of them. Here is your chance to get a hold of a nice one. $30 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. I want happy customers. I try very hard to write a complete and accurate description and mention everything I see... Thank you for looking and check back often as I have many more nice antique firearms to get listed soon.
