Description: The M&P 5.7 is one of Smith & Wesson’s newest pistol models. It is intended to compete with the FN 5.7 and the Ruger Five-Seven pistols. Chambered for the 5.7x28, this pistol uses the locked-breech TEMPO™ barrel system wherein the breach end of the barrel rotates, but doesn’t cam open until the bullet passes a gas port. Despite its appearance, the M&P 5.7 is not s striker fired handgun, but instead makes use of an internal hammer, similar to the Ruger Mark series of pistols. The pistol has a flat-face trigger which allows for consistent finger placement, providing for more accurate shooting. The slide top is cut for the mounting of an optic. The magazine release is reversible, and the slide stop is ambidextrous. The 5” barrel is threaded for the mounting of a suppressor. The bore uses a 1:9 inches twist rate with 8 grooves rather than the usual six. Weight unloaded is 26.7 oz. The magazine capacity for the M&P 5.7 is 22 rounds, plus one in the chamber, two more than its competitors. The grip is designed to be as slim as possible to compensate for the length from backstrap to front strap. This length is necessary given the dimensions of the 5.7x28 cartridge. The barrel is threaded for the attachment of a muzzle device such as a compensator or a suppressor. This pistol is new in the box and comes with two 22-round magazines.
