Smith & Wesson (S&W) M&P 9 M2.0 Metal 17-round New in Box
Description: Smith & Wesson had great success with their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation pistols with such famous pistols as the Models 39, 59, 410, 439, 659, 645, 1006, 4506, 6906, and many others. The later 3rd Generation pistols were particularly noteworthy as the 9mm models fell into the “Wonder 9” category. These were pistols chambered for the 9mm Parabellum and which usually featured a double-stack magazine for high-capacity. Many of the S&W models became popular with Police Departments in the 80s and 90s, replacing the revolvers that law enforcement had used for decades. Some of these models were so popular as to remain in production until the early 2000s. 1994 marked a turning point for Smith & Wesson and their semi-auto line. This was the year that the famous (or infamous) Sigma pistol line was introduced. Caught up in the polymer-craze begun by the Glock 17, the Sigma featured a polymer frame. Going forward, Smith & Wesson would reduce and eventually cease production of double-action metal-framed pistols in favor of polymer-framed ones. There was just one issue. The Sigma was so close to the Glock design that Glock sued Smith & Wesson in court for patent infringement. While S&W had made some modifications to the basic Glock design, the closeness in design ultimately resulted in S&W agreeing to settle out of court. At this point, S&W had to make several modifications to the design in order to make it their own. After a few models, such as the SD series, S&W arrived at the popular M&P series of pistols in 2006. After 11 years of good sales and some feedback from the gun-buying public, the M&P M2.0 series was introduced in 2017. In all that time, the popularity of metal-framed guns has never gone away. Indeed, many shooters, particularly those who shoot in pistol competitions, prefer the metal-frame types as their greater weight reduces recoil and allows for faster follow-up shots. Other manufacturers, such as Sig Sauer and Century Arms/Canik USA, have introduced metal framed versions of their polymer-framed guns to meet this market demand. Understandably, Smith & Wesson had to follow suit. Thus, for the first time since 2006, S&W is now producing a double-action metal-framed pistol in the form of the M&P 9 M2.0 Metal series of pistols. The example shown here is the standard M&P 9 M2.0 Metal. It features a 4.25-inch-long barrel, white dot sights, forward slide serrations, textured polymer front strap, wide slide stop, and a reversible magazine release. In addition, the M2.0 Metal has an enhanced sear for lighter, crisper trigger let-off. The sights consist of the standard M&P white dot type. The M2.0 Metal also has the slide cut for mounting a red dot sight. The frame has a picatinny-style rail for the mounting of an accessory, such as a laser or flashlight. The grip itself uses an optimal 18-degree grip angle for a natural point of aim. The trigger is the M2.0 flat-face type which allows for consistent finger placement, providing for more accurate shooting. The pistol comes with four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts for a proper fit to the user’s hand. The barrel has a black Armornite finish while the slide and frame have a nice Tungsten Gray Cerakote finish. This pistol is new in the box and comes with a set of optic plates and two 17-round magazines. The M2.0 Metal will fit any standard M&P 9 holster.
