Description:
16-1/2 inch octagon barrel chambered in 41 caliber "Rocket Ball". This was self contained ammunition. Good shiny bore with good rifling and just a few scattered light pits. Sights include a small blade front and elevation adjustable notch rear. Barrel and integral full length magazine tube have been cleaned long ago and are gray patina with only a partial barrel patent marking discernible. Brass receiver is engraved and shows traces of tarnished silver plating with the balance having toned to a mustard patina. Varnished walnut stock has checkering in the wrist and some minor handling mars and a hairline crack coming off the lower tang. Brass crescent shaped buttplate also has some edge engraving and a mustard patina. About 1,000 of these carbines were manufactured in three different barrel lengths between 1857-1860.
