Wartime Classic German PPK Auto Pistol with Unusual Markings

Offered here for sale and just acquired a fine WWII vintage classic Walther PPK 7.75mm auto pistol. Serial number 999749. It is stamped with  "eagle over N" proof marks. It has Excellent factory brown checkered plastic grips. Excellent bore. What is unusual about this specimen is an engraved/stamped marking/identification "Metalu.Eisen" marking on slide which may be of prime German wartime significance. Overall about 97-98% condition with wear consistent with holster wear.
The serial number of this Walther PPK and proof marks place it in the wartime commercial-production era.


The “ Eagle over N” is a commercial nitro proof. The specimen has original brown checkered Walther plastic/Bakelite grips. The barrel Length is approximately 3.3 inches.  
The Eagle/N proof replaced the earlier Crown/N proof beginning in April 1940. Wartime Walther PP and PPK pistols carrying Eagle/N commercial proofs were produced from 1940 until the end of the war.
Based on the serial number 999749 collectors generally place these high six- and seven-digit commercial PPKs in the 1940–1941 production period, shortly after the proof-mark transition. Estimated manufacture in 1940 or early 1941.
This is a high-quality wartime commercial PPK  made during wartime without military markings but made during wartime with the additional unusual stamping may denote possibly a period German industrial, commercial, or company property marking  or more likely a government office, factory manager, or industrial concern contributing during wartime to the Third Reich.The fact that the marking translates to "metal and iron" in English certainly lends creedence to an issuance to an official inm a wartime industrial concern relating to producing materials for the war.
