Walther P38, Early 5.6 .22LR, Nearly NIB, 313582, I-1080
Description: A very unusual P38 made for European distribution in that the only caliber designation on the slide references 5.6mm (not .22LR). Slide dated 4/67 with final assembly reflected by the frame date of “68”. Also unusual in that the slide markings are masked within a high polish oval, typical for the earliest of these pistols, the rest of the slide assembly having a matte finish. Standard configuration with 5” barrel having drift adjustable front sight and fixed rear sight. Lightened slide with usual two line Walther legend on left side stipulating model and caliber. The right side of the slide is dated “4/67”. Usual Eagle/N proofs on left side of frame, right side of slide and under barrel. Discrete import markings on base of frame. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with the year “68” next to the antler proof and Eagle/N. Fitted with two piece black plastic grips with the left side recessed for the lanyard loop. Accompanied with two high polish magazines manufactured to reliably feed the .22LR cartridge and marked with the Walther banner along with the European denomination “cal. 5.6mm”. The barrel and slide have a matte finish while the alloy frame is black anodized. Each of the magazines were finished with high polish salt blue. Complete with standard instruction booklet and brown/faux wood grain cardboard box marked with model and caliber, end label with matching serial number. Synopsis: Scarce Walther P38, assembled 1968, in caliber 5.6 (.22LR), with early masked slide markings, no Interarms, in orginal shipping box, with booklet and spare magazine. Condition: Pistol and each of the two magazines have 99+% original finish, some congealed grease on the right side of the slide, near the date. The grips are in about the same condition though the right panel has a few scuffs in the smooth area above the checkering. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. Excellent, crisp shipping box. An impressive post war P38, having the most desirable early features, in a scarce caliber! ~~Insured shipping fee of $65; most packages shipped using FedEx 2nd Day.~~ SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Walther Serial Number: 313582 Caliber Info: .22LR |
