Webley & Scott Prototype of the .32 Harrington Richards

Description:
Webley & Scott "in the white", prototype of the Harrington & Richards .32 ACP auto. Has only the grip safety. The patent for this .32 caliber H&R self-loading pistol was based on a patent application filed in 1914. Based on this patent, a prototype pistol was made, this is very likely the first prototype ever made for the .32. This pistol most likely was used when William Whiting made his presentation to Harrington and Richardson for a licensing  agreement. This pistol was made in 1914 because it is identical to the drawing of British patent 1914-6956, including the fact the patent does not show a manual lever on this pistol. This prototype is nearly identical in all dimensions to the H&R.32, and the magazines are indistinguishable. Pistol has an internal extractor and load indicator. This actual pistol is pictured in the Webley & Scott Automatic Pistols book by Gordon Bruce. It is pictured on page 292, lower photo. Unique, one of a kind prototype. This pistol can be traced back to having been in the Webley and Scott factory collection at one time. Reference Gordon Bruce's "Webley & Scott Automatic Pistols" book page 23 where he mentions that William Whiting kept a few hand-built prototypes of his weapons as personal mementos.
