Description:
CONFEDERATE DOUBLE EDGED BOWIE KNIFE BY LEECH & RIGDON. 7 1/2 inch straight double edged bowie blade marked LEECH AND RIGDON MEMPHIS on one side of the ricasso and the number 25 on the other. Wire bound wood grip with bragg cross guard & pommel. O.A. lengths 12 inches. According to William A. Albaugh III book The firm advertised bowie-knives of every description, bayonets for shotguns and rifles, it is presumed that such were made, but to date 1960, non have appeared that can be identified as products of Leech & Rigdon.
Condition: Very Good showing use. Even patina on the brass. Leather wrapping over wood grip missing. No scabbard. I DO NOT KNOW OF ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE CONFEDERATE KNIFE! Leech & Rigdon was located at the corner of Main & McCall Streets, Memphis, Tennessee as stated in the Memphis Appeal September 18, 1861 and there was said to have been established primarily for the Manufacture of Army cutlery and brass castings of all kinds.
