Description:
This is an unique American made Bowie knife. This piece was cleverly created from an original Krag Bowie bayonet. The blade is the correct 9 3/32 length. The guard is built from a modified guard mounted upside down. The grip is constructed from a piece of another which is decorated and capped with two pieces of crudely cast German silver or pewter masks. The grip is slightly crude in appearance but provides an excellent grip for a right hand. This piece was either built by or for Kelly S. Morse, a U.S. ordnance inspector at Springfield. Kelly Morse was an assistant to R.A. Carr and principal inspector at various times. It is obvious that a man in this position would be able to avail himself of any material to fabricate an item such as this knife. This piece came from an estate in the Springfield area and with the knife came the above noted information. This is a very unique knife that is a one of a kind item. This piece should appeal to the American knife, Bowie knife or the Krag collector.
