There is light pitting on one small (perhaps smaller than a dime) portion of the bore and the rest is shiny. The metal has lost most of its original finish and is a brown patina. There is old pitting around the lock, hammer, and latch, which one can see in the pictures. The lock plate markings, serial number, and the date on the breech are partially obscured by this old corrosion. The rifle is in good mechanical conditon and it has been test-fired. The Buffington sight works through its entire range of motion but there is a slight bend in the bottom of the slider near the aperture. The sight seems to have a small amount of play and can be moved with a little pressure. It is not obvious that the wood has ever been refinished but there are no cartouches evident. There are some marks of handling and use befitting its age but there are no large gouges or chips. The stock and all parts are complete. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
