You’ve seen him and his dogs on television and attended his seminars at Bass Pro Shops.  He’s the BDC and UFTA Tournament Pro John Loeffler, trainer of Labrador retriever BDC Champions Buckshot (2010 AMF Region 1 champion) and BB (2011 3rd Place World Championships Ladies division with Ada Finnell). John was also a 2011 Finalist in the Flushing Division Doubles with Bill Berner and his dog Willie. You’ve seen Loeffler and his dogs compete on Sportsman Channel and now you can have the Electronic Shooters Protection, Guns International and Roosterwear pro staffer train your dog too.

My training philosophy is based on canine behavioral models. I rarely use force training or e-collars. My methods involve making the dog love the task at hand; finding birds, retrieving birds etc. I make the dog love the game. It is my belief, that dogs that love the game of hunting are better field dogs. They actively participate in the capture of birds, not just follow orders. My training program makes better more methodical hunting dogs. We just need to show them how the game is played!

There are two training location options.  One is near North –Central  Illinois (near Starved Rock State Park) that is fully state licensed designated dog training area and the other is in Southwestern Iowa (Anita IA) about  an hour  from Omaha and Des Moines  at Hansen Outfitters (Host of the Bird Dog Challenge World championships televised on Sportsman channel).

*Training sessions are $75 each.  A session can be 1 to 3 hours on average depending on your dog’s level of interest and the particular work we are doing. Owners are encouraged to come along and learn along with their dog.

 * Conditioning sessions are $35 each.  They are great way to keep your dog in shape year round and are critical for a consistent dog in the fall. Even if you don't hunt with your dog, conditioning sessions can be terrific for eliminating destructive behaviors which are usually caused by boredom. Dogs may not need jobs but they need a hobby at least! Just one or two sessions a week can make you think you have a whole new dog.

* In- Home training sessions (limited availability) are $300 a week.  Does your dog live in the house with you? If so, you may want to give extra consideration to John Loeffler, The Bird Dog Trainer in Home training sessions. Your dog lives in my home, is exposed to family life with other dogs and interaction with human visitors. Your dog also experiences field work daily. Your dog works with me in the field and lives in my home with my dogs. Your dog  learns not only how to be a great Bird dog in the field but a great pet in the house, learning manners and appropriate behaviors of a good canine family member.

* Budget option—A guided, train your own dog program.  A training program with email/phone coaching.  A great option for only $40 per week.

*Pick up and delivery of your dog when training is done is available for a small additional fee.
