Description:
#4906 Colt 1851 Navy, 1XXX range (1851) first year of production, HIGHLY desirable “square-back" trigger guard 2nd Variation and almost being a low enough number to have been a 1st Variation as the two variations intertwine numbers in this serial range. Cased with accessories, which include an original Colt Patent marked iron mold with sprue cutter, an original large shell flask w/adjustable charger (but being incorrect for this casing), two cap tins, another pasteboard container of which I haven’t a clue as to its use or why it is in the case and the case itself …which, while looking quite “old” inside (the faded and dusty lining) is too good on the exterior and has no center lid escutcheon nor key escutcheon. Consequently, ‘tis best to consider the case as “nice”, but probably not original. The revolver itself has a relatively smooth crisp exterior with no pitting of mention and a plum blue-brown color over most of the surface …and in MY opinion, it well may have Cold Blue applied to “cosmetically enhance” the gun overall. Liberal traces of silver wash on the straps. Address looks to have been an uneven roll and is only partially intact (see photos), about 70-80% cylinder scene remaining. Grips have minimal wear, bumps, or bruises and are the correct early “Slim-Jim” style grips. Mechanics are excellent and bore is Fine. Very handsome and VERY early ’51-Navy! There are a LOT of pictures of this neat old gun and casing, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. VG/VG+ $5950
