Custom Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Super Grade in .375 H&H caliber stocked by Tom Shelhamer in the early 1950s. Classis Shelhamer styling with perect grain flow French walnut, ivory inlays, checkered as described in Monty Kennedy book, correctly marked by Tom underneath buttplate, etc.
Flawless wood-to-metal fit and stock finish, perfection of the checkering, highest quality rust blue, interesting wavy finish on the bolt body and the buttplate, G&H removeable sidemount scope mount with properly executed flush screws, quality and timeless barreled action (early SN with no scope mount holes in rear receiver bridge). It is hard for me to describe the quality and precision of the workmanship so hopefully the photos can give you an idea.
Even more special is that it comes with documentation from Tom to the Dr. in Alaska whom it was being made for with the SN and scope/mounts mentioned in the letter along with other interesting tidbits. Pretty special since this was over 60 years ago.
An amazing piece for those who appreciate rifles made by the old masters. Only selling because the collection has grown too big and needs thinned out. Sorry cannot sell to California due to the ivory inlays in stock.
