Description:
Offered for sale is a very rare Rigby LRML Target rifle SN 14614 (1877) which is of the type that was used by the English, Irish and Australian Teams in the US Creedmoor Matches of 1874. Currently there are 2 LRML Rigby Target rifles being offered for sale  in the world including this one. A LRML Rigby has NOT been offered for sale at nor by a dealer since 2006 when I purchased this one in Australia. In 2006 4 rifles showed up one being the Lord Elcho rifle that was purchased in New Zealand and is now in the Elcho Shield museum in the UK. The offered rifle is listed on the LRML  and has been examined and photographed by the noted author, editor, and all around authority of English and American 19Th century Single Shot Target Rifles Tom Rowe. This rifle previous to my purchase was in a 50 year collection of target rifles whose owner at the time of purchase was in his mid 90's.
This rifle features the ORIGINAL Rigby marked 34 inch Barrel in 460 caliber  that has been re blacked which is in the English custom (old refinish), the bore appears to be bright and shiny. There is some buggering on the top of the barrel which was probably done over a century ago. The first 3 inches of the Barrel is smooth which was  to facilitate the loading of the rifle. There is a pin on the underside of the Barrel to attach a Short Starter which is not present. The Tang Sight is numbered to the rifle and reads 614, the sight base is present at the rear of the stock. The front sight is the original and is adjustable for Wind age. The Horn for end cap shows some minor bug damage which is shown in the pictures, the stock is sound with the normal for  rifles of this age handling marks, the checkering on the stock remains sharp. The Butt is checkered steel. All in all a good example of a very rare and desirable English Target rifle by a world famous maker that is full of history. The Rigby book does not go up to SN 14614, the original  Rigby factory records are now in the hands of the Paseo Robles, CA Rigby Co and at the time of purchase they were not available for reference. If one has any questions please give a ring and I will be happy to discuss the rifle 702 655-5215..I am amenable to reasonable  offers The barrel blacking shows to be more solid than the pictures represent. I will accept USPS MO or Cashier Checks which must clear. This rifle will be shipped in a Hard Case via USPS Registered Mail so that adequate insurance can be purchased.
It was brought to my attention by Mr Minshall of LRML that the SN that I listed as being 16414 was mistaken and upon examination of said Rigby the correct SN should have been 14614. A transposition on my part. Thank You Mr Minshall for helping me make the corrrection.

UPDATE 9/24/13
In response to a question.
The Bore on this Rigby rifle is BRIGHT and SHINY including the Breech Plug (which typically in rifles of this vintage show powder burn pitting) and the rifling is readily evident with a bore light. This is evidence that this rifle was extremely well taken care of during it's life.
