Description:
#4910 Colt 1848 “Baby Dragoon”, 5”x31percussion, 12XXX serial range, square-back trigger guard, Stagecoach cylinder scene (of which almost none remains except for some dim partial circles of the stagecoach wheels), rectangular cylinder stops, and rammer assy. (See the Flaydermans #5B-041 for this scarce variation). Also known as the Old Model Pocket Model, this variation appeared in the 11600-15500 range and overlapped with the 1849 Pockets. Basically smooth brownish patina with some scattered pitting, most being on the cylinder from the practice of boiling to clean out the black powder residue. Retains about 95% of the original silver plating on the trigger guard, decent grips with medium wear and a long crack on one side. Wedge is an old original wedge, but mismatched. Very good action, decent bore with good rifling but does have a blotch of pitting about half-way down. Very hard gun to find in any condition, as these were “used up” during both the California Gold Rush of 1849 as well as being carried as secondary weapons during the Civil War. About VG as described. $2295
