U.S. VET. VOLS. AND 10TH. N.Y. ZOUAVES DOCUMENTATION. Serial number C30141. 100% original and complete including it’s bayonet and scabbard. All in excellent plus condition with 80-90% original blue and casehardening and fine stock and forend with the original U. S. inspector’s cartouches. Brilliant bore and perfect working order. Listed in the 2nd. U.S. Veteran Vols. Company Order Books in the National Archives by serial number as issued to Jeremiah Howland and also listed in Coates and McAuley’s book “CIVIL WAR SHARPS CARBINES AND RIFLES” on page 95 as issued to Jeremiah Houland with the name incorrectly spelled as attested to by the fact that Howland carved his name “JEREMIAH HOWLAND” inside the patch box and the fact that it came from his direct descendant of the same last name. Corporal Howland served from 1861 to the end mustering out in June 1865. Most of his service was with the famous, long serving 10th. New York Infantry also known as the “National Zoaves”. As part of The Army of the Potomac the 10th New York served in most all the main battles of the Civil War in Virginia and Maryland from Second Manassas thru to Petersburg and were present at Lee’s surrender. Howland, as did other long serving veteran soldiers, was recruited into the Veteran Volunteers near the end of the Civil War and for which he received a re-enlistment bonus and a highly prized Sharps Rifle and bayonet. Superb and with copies of the pertinent regimental histories and Howland’s National Archives records. Extra rare and with iron clad documentation. SOLD Antique: Yes |
