Description:
#1512, Griffin & Howe Inc. New York: A Springfield Actioned G&H Sporter Made about 1938 with a 24" barrel with a band front ramp and no barrel sights, Barrel band swivel, Lyman 48 receiver sight, Matted receiver ring, Not drilled or tapped, Two panel bolt knob checkering, Checkered trigger face, Checkered "Thumb Print" on the floorplate, Jeweled bolt, Classic G&H stock with a horn forend tip, Wrap around point pattern checkering, Steel grip cap, Shadowline cheekpiece, Sling eye on the stock, Nickel silver escutcheon, 13 7/8" LOP over a fully checkered and engraved trapdoor buttplate, 7 lbs. 12 oz., The metal was reblacked a long time ago & now is 95%, The stock re-oiled & now 94-95%, The checkering is 98%, The bore is excellent plus and looks like the day it left G&H. At one time this piece had a G&H side mount; the wood filler does not show on the outside. The screw holes are totally blind on the inside of the rail and below it. I can't find them but they were there at one time. This very gun, G&H #1512, is photo'd in S. R. Truesdell's book; The Rifle: Its Development for Big-Game Hunting between pages 180 & 181.
