Description:
This Model 1942 WWII helmet retains 75-80% of the original flocked paint finish with areas of flaking that reveal the underlying plum-brown metal. The left side has the silver Wehrmacht eagle decal which is lightly bubbled and about 80% intact. The zinc liner is complete as is the leather suspensionwhich has some dryness crazing and flaking around the edge. The original chin strap is present with a field-repaired break on the left side near the bail and remains relatively supple. The interior of the neck flare has the maker code "NS64" (made by Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke/dome size 64) and a painted name: "Gefr. Leil" (Corporal Leil). This is a great looking helmet with soldier's rank and name that would be a great addition to any collection. This piece is a relatively untouched example of a M-42 helmet which was probably a vet bring back piece. It has had some poor storage but is still a better than average example. For reference see "German Helmets of the Second World War" by Branislav Radovic.
