Description:
A black leather percussion regulation revolver cartridge box with similar markings to one shown on page 389 of "U.S. Military Holsters And Pistol Cartridge Boxes" by E. Scott Meadows. The flap shows a script "U.S." on the left and inspector's name "T.I. Shepard" in a rectangle on the right. This example also shows a makers name at the tip "J.Davey & Co /Newark". The book also shows a photo of this type cartridge box with 2 packets of ammo in place. An excellent example for the Civil War or early Indian Wars collector in fine overall condition.
