Description:
SN 110457, SA 1906 bayonet is plated for use in parades. Plated bayonets have been reported in various military facilities, see pg 25 of "American Military Bayonets of the 20th Century" by Gary M Cunningham. As noted, it is not easy to provide provenance as to when and where these were plated. This piece has a lovely yellow patina over the nickel with several areas of copper undercoat breaking through. Features included early style grips, stamped A or tang to indicate new catch and a single tube, no seam scabbard with heavy leather tip. This scabbard is unmarked, probably by Mills. This is a rare scabbard in this condition and makes this a very nice set for displays. Note we have not cleaned this piece but left it in its as found condition.
