Description:
This is a 1929 dated saber that measures 39 1/2" overall with a 33 1/4" curved, single-edged blade having wide single fullers. The steel is mostly bright and has dark spots running up the edges on both sides while the reverse ricasso has a partially visible maker's mark with 1929 date. The brass hilt has a single forward swept quillon with ring final, knucklebow, grooved wooden grip, and a plain Phrygian helmet pommel. The brass has turned a dull ochre-yellow color on both the hilt and scabbard fittings. The black scabbard is clad in a thick black resin that has chipped along the top and bottom edges, revealing the woven cloth underlayer. A Mosin-Nagant bayonet is included which rides in a set of subsidiary rings integral to the scabbard bands. This is a hard-to-find complete Soviet saber set that has been used but not abused and is in very good condition.
