Description:
This WWII knife was built in Australia and was used and is probably named to a U.S. serviceman. This is a very heavy knife with a reinforced shank, heavy brass guard and two piece wood grip secured by brass rivets. This knife is a variation of the V-44 and is quite similar to two examples on plate 400 and 401, page 171 of "British and Commonwealth Military Knives" by Ron Flook. The blade is 9 1/2" and overall 14 1/2" . This knife rides in a Collins # 13 scabbard. The scabbard is marked "Robt E. Landino, Hamden Conn." It is also marked in 4 places "Landino" and "R.E.L. Hamden Conn". A very heavy and well made Australian knife that was of the type favored by the US servicemen in the South Pacific.
