Our tlelephone number is still going to be 478-784-2767 Model 1841 Saber bayonet for the 1841 Mississippi Rifle. These bayonets were produced, either by contract or subcontract by E. Remington & Sons of Ilion, New York; N.P. Ames, Chicopee, Massachusetts; Collins & Co., Hartford, Connecticut, and perhaps officially at Harper’s Ferry. This bayonet is the longest of the regulation U.S. bayonets being 30 3/8” overall and having a 25 ½” blade. The utilization of this weapon required no modification to the rifle itself as did the other models for the same rifle. Instead a split, clamping ring, 9/16” wide was devised on which the lug was internally forger and which was secured in place on the barrel by means of a clamping screw. This is a good example of this bayonet. Stamped 1861 on the ricasso, 2861 on the rear of the grip and 755 on the clamping ring. SOLD |
