Description: Chinese sword still retaining some of its original gold gilding. This is an early Chinese Warring States Period (C. 300-200 BC) bronze sword. The hilt of tubular form with two integral upstanding ridges intended to hold its original cord wrapping (now perished) in place. The flared pommel measuring approximately 1.64", the guard 1.86" in width. The 16.63" blade has a strong medial ridge. Overall length 20.82". Swords of this type are illustrated in Max Loehr's "Chinese Bronze Age Weapons" (Ann Arbor, University of Michigan Press),pp. 77-78, 197-203, PL. XXXVII (No.'s 91,95,96) and Pl.
