Description:
*** $2,000 REDUCTION *** Up for sale is this beautiful and rare 12 bore double rifle made by Joseph Lang & Sons in 1873. It features stalking safeties, 80% engraving coverage, nicely sculpted hammers, and 26” Damascus fully rifled barrels. Recently refurbished by Steve Bertram it is in excellent condition. Serial number is 4807.   ***   The stock, made of strong, straight grained walnut, has been professionally refinished and the checkering recut. The forearm wood has been replaced. Length of Pull is 14-3/4” to a checkered butt with engraved steel heel and toe plates. The pistol grip is protected by an engraved steel grip cap.   ***   The black powder proof and beautifully figured Damascus barrels have been rebrowned and the file cut rib recut. It has express style sights. The barrels exhibit very mild pitting which is typical of guns of this period. Not to worry, plenty of metal.   ***   The action has been re-case color hardened and the finish” aged”. It features a new hinge pin. Weight is 10lb 3oz. All this is topped off by a custom made oak & leather case  by Jim Wear consisting of an oak & leather drawer housed in an outer leather cover. It is made to look like a leg o’ mutton case but it is very different.   ***   This gun is fully functional, beautifully restored, and ready to return to Africa! Don't miss the chance to savor this rare double rifle from the mid-Victorian era. What stories it could tell.   ***   See this gun and other fine doubles at the MacNab booth  at The Vintage Cup held at Dover Furnace Shooting Grounds in Dover Plains, New York September 25th through September 28th.
