Description:

Really clean and scarce belt. Has arsenal stamp on tongue with inspector marks J.Mc.L on back.  It is standard varnished canvas body for the 45-70 Govt. cartridge. This is the experimental belt with the Three riveted brass rings. These modified belts were used in the 1879 trials in Fort Abraham Lincoln department of Dakota Ordnance.  This rare example is in extraordinary condition.  Thebelt is nearly perfect, no holes tears or flaws of any kind.  Brown leather is complete, marked and in excellent shape albeit a bit dry.  Early and rare Indian Wars piece.
