Many thousands of flint muskets were converted to percussion before the Civil War by States as well as the Federal Government from the late 1850’s to the mid 60’s. The bayonets for many of these muskets were lost of obsolete and States contracted in Europe for bayonets with the upgraded features of the U.S. Model 1855 type. This bayonet is proofed with a “CROWN/I” on the elbow and what appears to be an “E” on the locking ring. 22” o/a with 19 ½” blade. The number “6” is stamped on the ricasso. Socket diameter .87 and is stamped “230/1869”. For the .69 caliber musket. Very good plus and all original. SOLD |
