Francotte Maker & Patentee, Liege, Belgium: Von Lengerke & Detmold, U.S. Agents New York: A Auguste Francotte Model 20 in 12 Bore Made in 1926 for VL & D in New York City, 26" Ejector Dovetail Lump Rib Extension Hidden Crossbolt, It is .726 .004 & .035" (Skt.I. & Full), 2 3/4" chambers opened from 2 5/8", Original bore size proved at 18.4mm, Wall thickness on the right & left at .029", Sideplates, Side clip action body, Double triggers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Open pistol grip stock at 14 x 1 1/2 x 2 5/8" over a 1" leather pad, Cast-off for the right hand, Nice game gun weight of 6 lbs. 1 oz., 80% coverage of very nice scroll and deep chiseled balls of the action, Very nice European walnut with very good color and contrast, It has 2 locking screws for key screws, This is a doggone nice gun, It retains 15% original case colors with the balance a nice patina, The barrels professionally reblacked & now at 99%, The stock re-oiled & at 99%, The checkering remains at 98%, The barrels inside & out are excellent plus. It is tight to the face and overall a very solid gun, Good maker, attractive, great vintage, excellent engraving and comes to hand with ease. ///////////////////////// Von Lengerke & Detmold in New York City was respected for its European-made sporting guns and fishing tackle, Von Lengerke & Antoine was the Chicago branch, they later became a subsidiary in August of 1929 and were bought by Abercrombie & Fitch. VL & D did advertise Francotte guns and brought a lot of them to these shores.
