Description:
This is an original example of the distinctive hoop-shaped grip used on British aircraft during World War II and comes complete with the brass gun firing button with rotating safety bezel. The handle retains the textured black composite grip wrap and about 80% of the original black paint on the mounting socket at the base. The underlying cast magnesium is visible where the paint has flaked and there are some chipped and oxidized areas along the front of the socket. The twin brass tube electrical trunks are present on the back and the firing button is frozen in place. This was originally the control head for a Harvard trainer (the British version of the venerable AT-6 Texan) and is quite similar to the control used on the Hawker Hurricane but lacks the brake lever found on those used in the fighter (the Harvard utilized foot brakes instead). This is a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of aviation and World War II history.
