This model was introduced in 1955 while the .308 was introduced in 1957.  The cheap version of this model with the crummy wood and impressed checkering, the end of the quality Savage Model 99's , came in 1965 so this was really the last of the quality Model 99's made from 1957-59 (top tang safety added in 1960) and very rarely found in the popular .308 Winchester caliber. Condition of the blue is almost new , maybe 98% overall with just a bit of thinness on bottom of receiver. Near perfect dark walnut stock. Serrated steel logo butt plate. 90% case colors on lever. Serial #965600.   Mint bore and action.  This gun was factory tapped for scope and sport a period Weaver 4.5 in mint condition.  Great rifle , great condition and great caliber.
