Description:
Sold Pending Funds / Early Japanese Matchlock Rifle, I believe this to be a very finely crafted Imperial Japanese feudal era Samurai matchlock rifle.  This musket has no serial number, it’s about 54 cal., with a 41" octagon barrel and weigh’s 9 ¼ lbs... This musket has a brass matchlock action with brass touchhole cover. The top flats of the barrel have a large silver inlaid dragon proceeded by plumes of smoke, there is also small silver floral pattern inlays just behind the rear site (I’m not sure but this could be an early style Mum).  The stock is fashioned from three pieces of dark hardwood the rear part of the stock behind the brass band is a single piece and the forearm is made of two pieces assembled to hold the iron barrel. There is a 3 inch hairline crack in the stock just forward of the action on the right side and a 2 inch hairline crack on the left side just below the top of the barrel at the brass band. The ramrod is present.  The overall condition as described is very good - very good plus.  Inv: # 22-159
