Description:
This is a mid-20th century, clock-type dial altimeter (part no. 1556-2K-A) with "1" - "0" calibrations and mercury adjustment knob in the lower left corner. The luminous paint on the indices and hands is intact and was apparently of two different shades that have worn slightly brown over time. The face is further marked in small raised letters: "BU. AERO. U.S. NAVY/PIONEER" just above the inches of mercury display. The instrument is fitted to an angled aluminum mount and has a small handwritten notation on the rear of the housing: "3-6-79/OK at Sea Level/0 elv. 29.97". This is a neat piece of aviation memorabilia and is in very good plus condition overall.
