Description:
Serial #694938, 7.63mm Mauser, 3 3/4" barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves, heaviest at the breech. This is an import marked pistol that has all matching numbers (including internal parts) and retains 85-90% of the original blue finish that has worn to gray along the barrel (especially the muzzle) and exposed edges and projections. The hammer and bolt are predominantly gray with some minor freckling and some of the original bright fire blue remains on the bolt stop, rear sight slider, trigger, and extractor. The floral pattern black plastic grips are modern replacements and are in fine shape with a few scattered handling marks on both panels. The lock-up is tight and the mechanism is fully functional. Included with the pistol is a letter from Joseph Schroeder of Schroeder Fine Arms of Libertyville, IL in which he relates that this pistol was one of 377 purchased from the Mongolian Ministry of Defense in 2005. According to the letter, the bulk of the purchase consisted of pre-war Commercials and post-war Bolos (Bolos amounting to almost 2/3 of the total number). Mongolia declared independence from China in 1911 with Outer Mongolia retaining its autonomy with Russian support. It is likely that these pistols were probably purchased for government or military use by Outer Mongolia making this pistol part of a little-known official purchase. Regardless, this is a handsome all-matching gun in fine condition that would be a wonderful addition to any collection; even better with period grips added. FFL or C&R
