Mauser 98k Dual Rail (Extremely Rare) Experimental Sniper Rifle, (Vet Bringback) code ar 42, serial # 1105 a, matching except floor plate # 2475 & follower # 75 , cal. 8 mm, 24" barrel with an excellent bore, metal retains 98% original blue, barrel marked with firing proof an waffenampted WaA 26, dual rail rear sight numbered to gun, milled trigger guard, the laminated stock is stamped with an Eagle and waffenampt WaA 26, wood matched and showing just the slightest use, the scope mount is numbered and waffenampted, the scope is a ZF 40 41/1 code dow, optics with three posts are good with a clear sight picture, sun shades are also very good, my theory on this piece is that the Germans were experimenting with a less costly scope system in 1942 and this rifle was in a batch of 25 rifles being used to develop this system. My reasoning for this scenario is the serial number which is 1125 and the front sight hood that is electric pencil marked 25/5 signifying they took the first 25 rifles from this serial number range and this is the 5th gun of this batch of 25 guns using this mounting system. This gun was brought back by a vet who never married and upon his death he willed all his possessions to his niece. This gun was part of the estate and heading to the local police department to be scrapped when it was saved by another officer and bought by me. I tried to get the gun lettered but this woman doesn't want her name associated with any firearm whatsoever (Liberal all the way) with that said I believe this is the Rarest German Sniper Rifle out there and its in Collectors Grade Condition a show piece good luck finding another.
