Description:
#35226, Holland & Holland Hand Detachable Sidelock Royal Ejector 500/465 Nitro Express with Their Bolstered Frame Made in 1952 for H. H. The Maharaja of Gwalior. It has 24" Ejector Chopper Lump barrels with rib extension third bite, 1/4 rib with 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, 180 degree fold over night sight, London proof at 75 Cordite and 480 grain bullet, Bushed strikers, Bolstered frame, Double triggers with the front articulated, Hand detachable locks, An extended top strap over the comb and a trapdoor grip cap. It is 15 1/8" L.O.P. over a 1" leather pad that is removable with leather plugs over the tiedown screws, Slight cast-off for the right hand, 10 lbs., Typical H&H Royal scroll, The frame retains 90% original case colors, The barrels retain 94% original blue with outside barrel striking near perfect, The super strong point to this gun is the bore condition as they look brand new and appear like the day they left 98 New Bond Street in London. This is the number 2 gun of a pair and marked accordingly in Gold in 3 places. It remains tight on the face, the wood is solid as a rock and it comes to the hand with ease and the sights are dead-on. This is the best price for a Holland Royal 465 currently on the market anywhere. This Holland #35226 465 was built for H.H. Sir George Jiwaji Rao Scindia Alijah Bahadur the 9th Maharaja of Gwalior from May of 1925 to 1961. He was invested with full ruling powers in February of 1936 and was the Godson of HRIM King-Emperor George the Fifth. One of the most spectacular and Deluxe Boxlock doubles I ever had was a "Hercules Finest Quality Model" Churchill 470 made for the same Maharaja of Gwalior. It had 98% coverage of very fine scroll engraving with carved fences and a carved top lever, Stocked with an exhibition piece of wood with very unusual fleur-de-lis checkering with a ribbon on the forend. It was with 90-92% original case colors, it had 97% original deep black barrels, and the wood was 96-97% and the checkering remained at 97-98%. The whole was cased in the Makers Oak & Leather trunk with the trade label and accessories.
