Description:
This is an exceedingly rare original flap holster and waist belt offered for sale by Colt's London agency in Pall Mall for 5 1/2" barreled revolvers. The leather has a light brown color overall with some very minor scuffs and crazing on the otherwise superbly preserved surface. The leather is still quite supple and flexible with a crisp and clear "COLT'S FIREARMS CO. / 14 PALL MALL / +LONDON S.W.+" ink stamp on the interior side of the belt. The brass fittings, including the "S" - shaped serpent buckle, retain traces of their original gold wash finish with a darker brown - ochre patina on the balance. The holster is in matching condition with some very mild verdigris on the closure stud and intact stitching. This is the very holster and belt rig pictured on page 101 of the "Colt Peacemaker Encyclopedia" Vol. 2 by Keith Cochran; 1991. Only a meager handful of these holster rigs have survived to the present day (much less in the superb condition this set is in) due to the majority of the production having accompanied their owners on service in India or Africa, and they are a true rarity; an essential addition for any Colt collector. Also included are copies of the relevant illustrations from the above - mentioned book and a reprint of a period advertisement (the price of holsters and belts started at 10 shillings apiece then!). {Ref: "Colt Peacemaker Encyclopedia" Vol. 2 by Keith Cochran; 1991}
