In the ongoing contest between gunmakers to reinvent the wheel, the .30 Remington was one of those lost battles. Intended to provide a rimless alternative to the .30-30 Win, the cartridge would allow shooters a ballistically-identical round, but which was capable of using spitzer bullets in a non-tubular magazine. Unfortunately, the concept did not garner the popular support the company had hoped it would, and the cartridge was abandoned. That being said, for those of us who do not care for lever actions, this Remington makes an ideal brush gun. While no longer offered in a factory load, handloaders use data for the .30-30 Win in the .30 Rem, but the cases are not interchangeable. From a mechanical perspective, it is an interesting little rifle. The magazine tube moves with the slide when cycling the action, and the release mechanism is located on the bolt itself, unlike the majority of Remington's pump action firearms. If you hunt in heavy cover and want to keep to a pump action, this would be ideal. Call us today to make this a permanent fixture in your deer camp.
