RIFLE MUSKET WITH COMPOSITE PARTS. 40” U.S. Model 1855 Harper’s Ferry barrel dated properly at the top of the breech “1858” and with the very small “V/P/EAGLE HEAD” Harper’s Ferry proofs at the left breech. Correct original Model 1855 Long Range rear sight. Original lock and all its parts dated “1864” and stamped “C.S./RICHMOND,VA.” Richmond Armory stock with original brass forend cap with rivet and original Richmond coppery brass butt plate which is unmarked. Bands with tiny “U” stamps on the right side slightly above the rear of the band springs. The middle band stamping is smaller than the rear and front stamps and is certainly a replacement with an old non-Richmond band and spring. Original U.S. Model 1863 ramrod that has a matching patina and has been with the gun probably since the Civil War. Well used but has the original dark patina on both metal and wood. Lock in working order. Rifling still visible but dark. A real composite of the War period and from a very old Southern Maryland U.S. Martial Arms Collection started before WW2. Never on the market in the modern era. SOLD Antique: Yes |
