Description:
Serial #4305, .450 Boxer, 5 1/2" barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some spots of freckling along its length. This is an 1880-made revolver that retains nearly all of a British nickel re-finish with crisp London proofs and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON" marking on the barrel. The screws, hammer, and trigger likewise have a matching added nickel finish. The checkered hard rubber grips are in fine shape with only minor surface wear and flattening to the points as well as a single very small chip missing from the butt on the right side. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions perfectly both in single and double action. The trigger guard is marked ".45" caliber and the accompanying 1985 dated factory letter confirms that the revolver was initially chambered in .45 Colt. The rechambering to .450 Eley is expertly done, however and was undoubtedly done at the behest of the original owner by one of the fine British houses if not Colt's London office itself. The revolver is housed in a genuine deluxe English, brass-bound wooden presentation case that has had an indigo colored felt lining added during the past and comes complete with a metal oiler, turn-screw, and cartridge cases. This is an excellent British proofed and marked 1878 DA Colt and would make a great addition to a collection. Antique
