Here is a special edition piece from Beretta, that comes close to the 92SB form most of us met 30 some odd years ago. This is the 92FS Trident Variant. Manufacturer and warrantor is Beretta USA of Accokeek, Maryland; soon to be produced in Gallatin, TN. Construction is steel barrel, slide, and working parts fitted into a 7075 lightweight alloy frame. Finish is non glare weather resistant Brunitron. Grip panels are semi gloss finish American Walnut, with lower panel cut checkering and nickel plated Beretta Trident inlay Medallion. Slide is Government length, 1.15 inches thick, with rear lateral serrations, ambidextrous decocking safety levers, and internal firing pin safety. Barrel is 5 inch Government size, six groove rifling with 1:9.84 twist rate. Sights are slide integral front with dovetailed center rear. Chambering, of course, is 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9x19, 9mm NATO, call it what you will, THE 9mm. Each Trident comes with a total of two factory magazines. Photo specimen has California Compliant 10 rounders, but we will be happy to sub unissued factory Beretta 15 rounders for civilian buyers in jurisdictions where they are legal. Safety system consists of an internal firing pin safety to guard against accidental discharge if the pistol is dropped, together with a slide mounted ambidextrous main safety that functions as a decocker. Trigger is .340 smooth faced combat, 10 pound vicinity with 1 1/8 inch travel on double action, and two stage 4 pound vicinity on single action with negligible felt creep. Extreme overall length is 8 5/8 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame strut. Grip frame is serrated fore and aft, 1.03 thick and tapering to .73 at the front of the frame. Trigger guard is type two serrated face. Weight empty is 33.8 ounces, about 40 ounces loaded, with center of gravity at the breech face. Each Trident comes in its plastic factory case, outer cardboard sleeve, with cloth pouch cleaning kit, protective papers, trident box reinforcement cup, factory cable lock, Massachusetts flyer, and Instruction manual that contains warranty statement and factory registration section. Here is the pistol that began the revolution in semi-auto handguns 25 years ago. There were reasons for that, and the reasons are evident on close inspection of this specimen of the 92FS Pistol. Until 1985 or so, Colt and Browning 9mms would not handle hollowpoints. Smith & Wesson 39 and 59 series pistols would, but the Smiths did not capture the market's imagination, perhaps due to the boxy feel of the 59. The Beretta 92 was a pistol that looked good, felt good, and would handle sharp-nosed Federal and Smith & Wesson Hollowpoint ammo. It was, and is, extremely simply made, very easy to field strip and clean. Photo specimen is the Commercial variant of the Military M9. It comes with two factory 15 shot magazines.
