Description:
This is a handsome knife, built along the lines of the famous Fairbairn-Sykes Commando and measures 11 3/8" overall with a 6 9/16" straight, double-edged, rapid taper blade. The steel retains 98-99% of its original dark blue finish with sharp factory original edges and a slight bend at the tip. The oval crossguard has a commensurate amount of the original blue finish with some tiny spots of dark brown freckling along the edges. The black finished bronze hilt has deep knurling that meets the guard, a characteristic of O.S.S. knives, and has black rubber residue just below the pommel swell deposited by a deteriorating rubber keeper. The knife is housed in an original "Pancake Flapper" sheath that has 95-97% of the original olive green painted finish, flaked lightly on the contact points, the leather body has detached from the back rivet but is otherwise in fine shape with only some minor scattered surface scuffs and small blemishes. The black rubber keeper loop is an excellent later replacement added after the original rubber degraded. This is a terrific original O.S.S. knife with a handsome scabbard and would make an excellent addition to a collection.
