Description:
#4242 Starr 1858 D/A Army 44-percussion revolver, early 1870s after-market conversion to 44WCF (44-40) and marked “4W” on front of frame, complete with period holster in VERY fine condition! The bore is very good, as is the action and the revolver has the typical sub-contractors refinish in the matte’ blue with about 95% coverage and a 70% density. As is common, this revolver does show some scattered minor pitting beneath the blue, as these were Army surplus guns and returned used CW revolvers that were then purchased by various contractors who then converted them to cartridge guns and then resold them to civilian sources. What is UNCOMMON is that this is a 44WCF, because the huge majority were either 44COLT or 44REM center fire chambering. Grips show medium wear. The included holster is of the period and is near excellent with strong stitching, good nose plug, and the flap strap and belt loop are unbroken and intact. The holster is unmarked as to the maker but it fits this Starr D/A like a glove and is no doubt just for this size and shape gun. By itself, this is easily a $300-$400 holster, but it has been with this gun “forever” and thus should stay with it. About Fine as described, $1795
