Description:
Serial #8579, .54 Caliber, 21? barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very handsome carbine that retains 95-97% of the original blue on the barrel which has only a small amount of fading and freckling at the muzzle and a mild plum-brown patina along the barrel itself. The frame has retained a about 50-60% of the original color case-hardening which blends smoothly into a mild gray pewter patina on the balance. The lever, breech block, and wrist tangs have 95-97% of their bright nitre blue finish remaining as well. All of the screwheads have most of their fire blue remaining and the sling bar and ring have an overall slightly freckled bright gray patina. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous small handling blemishes scattered about the original oil finish (mostly on the forend) but the cartouches on the left side of the wrist are crisp and clear. The mechanical lock-up is solid and the action functions flawlessly. This is a splendid example of a Civil War Burnside in excellent original condition and would be a substantial upgrade for most collections. Antique
